The Vienna Tourist Board came up with the concept of “Vienna 2010″, together with experts from the hotel sector, incoming travel agencies and transportation experts, as well as from culture, commerce, and the city administration. It contains suggestions and orientations for measures in those areas where a development potential for tourism has been identified.
The board wanted a fresh perspective on its present tourist information systems, in view of such future development activities. With a group of information designers, I explored and studied Vienna with a tourist’s viewpoint. We analyzed various maps of the city, visitors’ guides, travel guides, public transport systems etc and studied other issues of language, culture and experience.
As a result, a detailed report of findings and recommendations was presented to the Vienna Tourist Board.
Process:
1. Studies and analysis of various types of City Maps.
2. Role Playing : Played ‘tourists’ around the city , used public transport , visited various tourist destinations’.
3. Interviewed other English speaking tourists at public places such as Musuems.
4. Created personas and different possible scenarios.
5. Collated findings and analyzed them.
6. Identified key problem areas and brainstormed on ideas to solve them.
7. Presented a detailed report of these findings an suggestions to the Vienna Tourist Board.
